Someone asked if The Shack had an influence on my story. Actually, I was telling my story before William Young published his novel. However, Young did prompt me to decide to self-publish, to partner with others to form Fortis Press. Major publishers don’t have a good record putting out unorthodox stories. The Shack is one, as is my novelette.
On a personal note, Young is a better writer than I. Much better. But my “great sadness” is not fiction. The old guilt, the old grief and the old fear in I Saw Jesus This Morning are real. I lived them.
