More on Missing Your Train (The Day Before)

The consequences for almost missing our train? Two words—More expenses:

  • For the change fee at AmTrak
  • For an extra night’s lodging (and hotels aren’t cheap in LA)
  • For two extra meals
  • And two cab fares

Yep. Seems you don’t want to even almost miss your train. On the other hand . . .

Back in 1976, and speaking figuratively, Charlotte and I missed another train in LA. Because of insufficient funds, I had to drop out of a seminary just up the road in La Mirada.

That unexpected, un-asked-for and unwanted decision changed my life. Without it, I would have never been camp director at Hidden Falls Ranch, nor a professor at Amarillo College.

Hmm. Maybe missing one’s train isn’t all that bad.

  1. I remember Rich and I visiting you & Charlotte in that chapter. Isn’t it interesting how our paths sometimes quickly change course and take us other places. It’s good to be able to look back and say “I’m okay with it now.”
