On Staying Put

One in three 20-somethings will move in any given year. But for the average 50-something, the ratio drops to one in 20.

So says Sandra Rosenbloom of the Urban Institute in Washington, DC, who predicts that the great majority of retiring baby boomers will stay put in their present home.

I think I know why.

Charlotte and I have traveled enough to know there are prettier places than West Texas. There actually are regions where 70 is the average daily temp—not the wind speed.

But the Panhandle of Texas is, well, home. It’s where most of our family live, where our friends are, where our history is.

Besides, if we move to Florida, where are we going to find good Tex-Mex?
