I\u2019m talking about Charlotte, the former Homecoming Queen who said yes to me 43 years ago.<\/p>\n<p>So today was her birthday, and we ate at a fancy Mexican food place where she engaged the male, middle-aged, waiter in typical, warm, West Texas chit chat. He replied in an equally engaging, typical-Latin-lover-kind of way. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>I know what you\u2019re thinking, and no, I\u2019m not just a jealous husband. Read on.<\/p>\n<p>Anyway, Charlotte commented on his beautiful Spanish accent, and I\u2019ll admit, the way he rolled his R\u2019s was striking.<\/p>\n<p>So when the meal was over, the man brought the check and told my wife he wanted to say something to her in Spanish.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSure,\u201d she replied, green eyes flashing (for the record, she says they weren\u2019t flashing).<\/p>\n<p>And he broke out in song. Really, I\u2019m not making this up. In a strong, sexy tenor, Rudy (as in Rudy Valentino) sang a Mexican rendering of the 1970 hit \u201cIt\u2019s Impossible.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The whole place (and this is a big place) fell silent\u2014all eyes on Rudy\u2014and my blushing bride.<\/p>\n<p>I wasn\u2019t sure whether to smile, which I did, or get in his face, which I would have done if I had known the lyrics. Steamy stuff\u2014look them up.<\/p>\n<p>So Rudy finished to enthusiastic applause from other diners (more accurately, other female diners). Charlotte and I thanked him, laughed and left.<\/p>\n<p>And walking across the parking lot, I was thankful, thankful for such a beautiful wife, and thankful that Rudy wasn\u2019t around in 1968. \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This white-haired lady is still turning heads.
