Seems there is a controversy on whether the latter affects the former.<\/p>\n<p>Yes, say the scientists. Brain function declines with age and creativity is one such function.<\/p>\n<p>No, say the artists, pointing to Michelangelo who did some of his best work in his 70s, and my favorite, Grandma Moses\u2014who didn\u2019t start serious painting until her 70s, who had her first solo show at 80, and who continued working for 20 years after that.<\/p>\n<p>My interest is somewhat different: not the effect of aging on creativity but creativity on aging.<\/p>\n<p>At this point, it\u2019s a personal observation. As a new retiree, my most satisfying experiences have come from things I\u2019m creating.<\/p>\n<p>And, while I can\u2019t say they\u2019re making me younger, they\u2019re certainly making me happier.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Just finished reading a Washington Post article on creativity and aging.
