Think of Sylvester Stallone in \u201cCreed\u201d or Harrison Ford in \u201cThe Force Awakens,\u201d or Robert DeNiro as \u201cThe Intern.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Marc Freedman, founder and CEO of Encore.org, says it\u2019s a case of \u201cart imitating life.\u201d He points to his own organization, which places older, experienced folks (mostly baby boomers retired from their primary careers) in non-profits who then \u201cprovide a healthy dose of mentoring to younger leaders.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Freedman\u2019s article reminds me of one I wrote in the 90s in response to the Billy Chrystal movie \u201cCity Slickers.\u201d I called them <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bestyears.com\/doover.html\" target=\"_blank\">do-over movies<\/a>, which is what baby boomers aspired to do in midlife.<\/p>\n<p>Only then it was more of a personal thing, and now it seems to be about making the world a better place.<\/p>\n<p>Looks like the Me Generation is becoming the We Generation. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Have you noticed Hollywood\u2019s recent movies about wise, older types who mentor younger people in need of guidance?
