Don’t Miss Your Train (the night before the day before)

They’re the first words that popped up when I googled “What if I miss my train?”

It was Monday a couple of weeks ago, I was doing research on traveling by Amtrak and noticed that many trains run late—I mean seriously late, two or three hours late.
And then I remembered I had given us less than two hours to make connections in LA where we were to leave the Southwest Chief to board the Coastal Starlight to Seattle.

Yep, scary.

Because, as the Internet pundit pointed out, there are consequences to missing a train.

Sure, Amtrak will put you on the next one—riding coach. The sleepers are already taken by those savvy travelers who, unlike me, allow for delays.

Which would mean Charlotte and I would spend 30-plus hours enjoying the landscapes of California, Oregon and Washington—IN AN UPRIGHT POSITION.

Yep. Got those reservations changed. But guess what? There are even consequences when you almost miss a train.

Tomorrow.
