Can’t Leave a Calling

It’s funny. I thought that leaving the classroom would mean leaving teaching and students. But nearly two months later, it seems I’ve done neither.

Last night I got an email from a young lady wanting me to take a look at her poems. Earlier this week I visited with Chrystelle who is about to return to Africa to bury her husband (by the way, she has received phenomenal support from her friends and the Amarillo community).

And the teacher in me keeps reading books on retirement—not just for me—but so I can pass along the good stuff to you.

I guess Os Guinness (The Call, 2003) is right: You can retire from a job, but you never retire from a calling.
