Of all the seasons, writers seem to like summer best.
“Everything good, everything magical, happens between the months of June and August” said author and screenwriter Jenny Han.
“In summer, the song sings itself” wrote poet William Carlos William.
“Spring being a tough act to follow, God created June” concurred actor/writer Al Bernstein.
I suppose you have your own reason to love a summer walk.
Me? I like summer because it provides opportunity for my favorite hikes—mostly in the high country of New Mexico and Colorado, where snow often blocks the trail until the first of July.
I start feeling it in June, the irresistible pull of lush arctic tundra, colorful Indian paintbrushes, playful marmots and inquisitive Rocky Mountain goats, the perfect amenities for the perfect summer hikes.
*My next blog ends the seasons’ series with a look at the pleasure of fall walks.

Mountain walks are the best, closely followed by Canyon walks.
Well said, Phillip. We’re on the same page.
