Four days till Book Launching—In today’s blog I look at the benefits of walking and the research question that created this book.
The advantages of walking (especially for those over 60) are well documented and include everything from heart and longevity benefits to increased mobility, better brain and emotional health and prevention of chronic diseases. And, today, there’s reason for hope. According to one source, 55% of adults 65 and older walk for leisure in a given week.
Good news—right?—but the same study found only 13% do it consistently or at recommend levels.
If I was writing a dissertation for a Ph.D. program, I would use this fact to introduce my research project: How can we significantly raise that percentage? What will get people walking more? The answer to that question is the thesis of my new book, which I’ll share in tomorrow’s blog.
