A few weeks ago, I asked online friends for suggested books, so thought I’d let you know about the three I’ve read.

The Last of His Kind is a biography of legendary mountaineer and photographer, Bradford Washburn. Written by David Roberts, the book details the life of Washburn, whose mountain climbing exploits – most of them in Alaska – began in the 1920s and spanned four decades. I loved the adventures, but, for some reason, could never get warm while reading about them.

Written by Rob Mundle, Fatal Storm tells about a 1998 yacht race from Sydney, Austrailia to Hobart, Tasmania, an event which ended in the deaths of six sailors.

This one is a true page-turner. You just can’t put a book down when a 45 foot sailing vessel is about to crest a six-story high wave.

Finally, A Walk in the Woods by Bill Bryson is a travel narrative about a middle age man walking the Appalachian Trail with his overweight, alcoholic friend whose idea of trail mix is donuts and Little Debby Snacks. I liked this one the best, maybe because I like hiking and laughing, and this book has plenty of both.
